Injection Mold Design Services for Injection Molding Projects

2026-06-08 14:13:21 Injection Molding
Injection molds serve as the core tooling for mass production of plastic products. A well-designed mold fundamentally determines the appearance quality, dimensional accuracy, molding efficiency and overall production cost of finished parts. Tailored to diverse product structures, material properties and production volumes, we deliver comprehensive supporting services for injection mold development. The full workflow covers preliminary technical evaluation, structural design, drawing documentation, trial mold optimization and mass production adaptation. All solutions take process feasibility, service life and post-operation convenience into full consideration, catering to the development of molds for small precision components, structural parts and cosmetic parts.
Preliminary Technical Communication and Solution Evaluation

At the initial stage, in-depth technical communication and working condition assessment will be carried out. We review clients’ 3D models, physical samples, application requirements, material grades, projected output and appearance standards. For miniature parts such as tapered sealing plugs and small plastic fittings, special analysis is conducted on wall thickness, draft angle, snap features and assembly tolerances. Combined with the flow performance, shrinkage rate and thermal stability of common materials including PLA, PC, PP and ABS, we predict potential molding defects such as short shots, sink marks, deformation and flash. The number of mold cavities is confirmed according to production demands: single-cavity molds are adopted for small-batch trial production, while multi-cavity layouts are applied for medium and large-scale manufacturing to balance manufacturing cost and productivity. We also assess gate styles, vent positions, cooling systems and ejection mechanisms, and deliver a complete preliminary development plan, schedule and technical specification. The formal design work will start after mutual confirmation.

Professional Mold Structural Design

All structural designs are completed in line with standard injection molding principles, with balanced performance in precision, mechanical strength and maintenance friendliness. For tiny precision plastic parts, the machining accuracy of cavities and cores is optimized to guarantee consistent dimensional tolerance across all products. Runners and gates are rationally configured; point gates, submarine gates and side gates are preferred for small components to minimize runner waste and prevent flow marks and air bubbles caused by turbulent melt flow. Standard vent slots are machined at melt flow terminals, weld line areas and enclosed dead zones to discharge trapped air, which effectively eliminates burning, incomplete filling and prominent weld lines. Cooling channels are evenly arranged along the profile of cavities and cores to shorten cooling cycles and reduce internal stress and product deformation. Ejection systems are selected based on product shapes, including standard ejector pins, flat pins, lifters and sliders. For thin-walled parts vulnerable to ejection whitening and surface scratches, ejection positions and contact areas are optimized to ensure smooth demolding without damaging product surfaces. Mold steel, mold bases and standard accessories are selected in accordance with production volume and operating conditions to enhance the overall durability of molds.
Complete Engineering Drawing Output
Upon design completion, a full set of standardized engineering documents will be provided, including 3D assembly models, 2D machining drawings, bill of parts and material specifications. All drawings clearly mark cavity dimensions, fitting clearances, machining tolerances, heat treatment rules and assembly datums, which can be directly used for mold processing, assembly and routine maintenance. The file formats are compatible with mainstream design and machining software, facilitating file archiving, factory coordination and subsequent mold modification and part replacement. For multi-cavity molds and molds with complex slide structures, separate detail drawings are supplied with detailed machining requirements to ensure high precision during processing and assembly.
Trial Mold Follow-Up and Optimization Adjustment

We provide on-site support throughout the trial mold phase, recording injection parameters, product defects and mold operating status. Once problems such as dimensional deviation, appearance flaws, demolding difficulties and mechanical jamming occur, root causes will be analyzed promptly and corrective solutions will be proposed. If defects stem from structural design, we will adjust gates, vents, ejection systems and cooling layouts in a timely manner. For issues related to machining accuracy and fitting clearance, we will cooperate with manufacturers to conduct repair and fitting work. Iterative trial runs and adjustments will be implemented until all products meet specifications and the mold runs stably. Trial reports and optimization records will be compiled to ensure the mold is fully qualified for mass production. For products made from special materials such as biodegradable plastics and transparent resins, targeted structural adjustments will be made to adapt to unique molding characteristics.

Mass Production Adaptation and Technical Support

After mold delivery, professional technical support is available for mass production. Based on clients’ existing injection equipment and workshop environment, we offer reference process parameters, daily maintenance guidelines and standard operating procedures. Operators will be instructed on standardized inspection, lubrication, cleaning and anti-rust work to extend mold service life. In case of mold wear, accessory damage or product design changes during production, we provide mold repair, modification and custom part manufacturing services. We also conduct rapid mold retrofits to match product iteration and process upgrading, enabling one set of mold to adapt to multi-stage production demands.
Customized Differentiated Services
Flexible customized services are provided to meet diversified demands. For new product research and development, low-cost prototype molds are designed to shorten R&D cycles and control development expenses. For high-precision cosmetic parts and micro-components, we focus on high-gloss cavity processing and refined structural design. For high-volume production, multi-cavity and robust structures are prioritized to cut down unit production cost. Value-added services including used mold assessment, old mold reconstruction and drawing renovation are also available to cover all demands in injection molding production. From defect prevention design in the early product development stage to mold delivery and mass production operation, we deliver integrated solutions for mold design and injection molding, simplifying the cooperation process for clients.
