II. Material Selection for Different Production Scenarios

These steels come with a stable hardness (typically HRC 28-35), eliminating the need for post-machining heat treatment and significantly reducing lead times.

Key grades are S136 and H13. S136 is a stainless mold steel, the top choice for mirror-finish ABS parts. It offers exceptional polishability and corrosion resistance, suitable for humid environments or corrosive release agents. For ABS parts requiring complex textures or etching, the steel must have good chemical etching properties. For simple textures and low volumes, hardened 45# steel is an economical choice. For high-precision textures and larger volumes, Cr12MoV is preferred. Its high hardness and wear resistance ensure the texture remains sharp and intact throughout the mold's lifespan.

Beyond the core cavity and core, non-forming components like guide pins, bushings, and ejector pins significantly impact mold performance.
