Common Problems in Chinese Hose and Pump Head Injection Mold Development

2026-10-28 13:38:23 Chinese Injection Molding

Hose and pump heads are matching packaging components for daily chemical products. They require stable sealing, smooth assembly and reliable rebound performance. These small thin-wall parts contain threads, buckles and narrow internal structures, which easily lead to molding and assembly defects. Risk control covers DFM review, gating, venting, thread demolding, cooling and tolerance matching.

Thread forming and demolding failure

Threads are the core feature of pump heads. Rotary thread unscrewing mechanisms or half-slider split threads are widely used. Rotary mechanisms may suffer incomplete thread filling and tooth damage when rotation and ejection are out of sync. Split sliders leave parting lines on the thread surface, causing poor screwing and leakage. Thin thread joints on hoses deform easily under injection pressure and lose roundness, leading to thread slipping.

Thin wall short shot, trapped air and burning

Wall thickness of hose connectors and pump shells is usually 0.6~1.2mm. Long flow path easily triggers short shot. Improper gate location causes obvious weld lines. Narrow internal cavities trap air, resulting in scorch marks at ribs and corners. Over-deep vents produce tiny flash debris that blocks the pump valve core and causes stuck pressing action.

Deformation and dimension drift caused by uneven cooling

Large thickness difference brings inconsistent cooling speed. Thread holes turn elliptical after ejection and leak after assembly. Compact multi-cavity layout limits water channel arrangement. Uneven cooling among cavities reduces consistency of finished parts. Residual stress inside parts causes slow deformation after storage and assembly failure at the client side.

Stuck undercut sliders and whitening fracture

Undercut buckles are formed by small lifters and sliders. Limited space makes these structures weak. Plastic seepage into fitting clearance creates debris and jams the mechanism. Insufficient draft angle leads to whitening and fracture during demolding. Unsynchronized action of multiple lifters twists the plastic part.

Tolerance control and assembly leakage risk

Mold development needs to control matching clearance between hose and pump head. Too large clearance fails sealing, while too small clearance increases assembly resistance. Many teams only test single parts instead of performing pairing assembly tests at trial mold stage. Tiny scratches and tool marks on sealing surfaces reduce sealing performance.

Gate residue and appearance defects

Visible gate marks are not allowed on cosmetic pump surfaces. Improper gate break leaves protrusions requiring manual trimming. Gate marks near sealing surfaces may scratch the seal during trimming and bring hidden leakage risk.

Mass production wear and mold service life

Thread surfaces, slider sealing edges and vents wear rapidly after repeated cycles. Ordinary pre-hardened steel without coating wears quickly after thousands of shots. Precipitate from PP and PE materials accumulates inside vents and triggers defects gradually.

Insufficient trial verification brings client complaints

Basic dimension and appearance check cannot discover hidden problems such as weak rebound and inversion leakage. Complete life cycle pressing test and leakage test must be carried out after assembling pump and hose before mass shipment.
