The dip-coating layer is the core protective surface of bathroom metal shelves. With excellent waterproof, rust-proof and wear-resistant properties, it adapts to the humid and frequently frictional bathroom environment and determines the overall service life and surface texture of finished products. Standardized abrasion testing is essential to avoid coating peeling, chalking and substrate exposure. This specification unifies the testing standards and judgment criteria for dip-coating abrasion performance and applies to all household and engineering bathroom dip-coated shelf products.

1. Standard Test Environment Requirements

All abrasion tests must be carried out in a constant temperature and humidity laboratory. The standard test temperature is 23℃±2℃, and the relative humidity is controlled at 50%±5%. The test environment must be clean, dust-free and free of corrosive gas to prevent external factors from affecting coating hardness and friction test results. Before testing, all samples shall be placed in the standard environment for 24 hours for conditioning to eliminate internal material stress generated during production and transportation. Test equipment needs 30 minutes of preheating and calibration to ensure stable and accurate test data.

2. Equipment and Sample Requirements

The Martindale abrasion tester is the designated test equipment for coating wear detection. It provides stable friction load, fixed speed and accurate cycle counting. All abrasive materials must be brand new and flat without damage. Auxiliary measuring tools include high-precision thickness calipers, magnifiers and color difference meters. Test samples are randomly selected from the same batch with complete and uniform dip-coating, no bubbles, no scratches and no exposed substrate. The standard coating thickness is controlled between 0.3mm and 0.8mm. All samples shall be cleaned and dried before testing without chemical corrosion.

3. Standard Test Operation Process

Fix the common friction surfaces of the shelf, including plate surface, hanging rod and edge areas, on the test platform to ensure flat and stable placement. Set the test load to 200g, friction speed to 50 times per minute, and total friction cycles to 1500 times to simulate long-term daily wear of bathroom products. The test must be stopped immediately if equipment deviation or sample loosening occurs. After the test, remove surface debris and place the sample statically for observation.

4. Test Result Judgment Standard

After the test, the coating is qualified if there is no substrate exposure, no peeling, no cracking and no obvious chalking. Slight friction marks and minor color difference are allowed. If local coating falls off, cracks appear or metal substrate is exposed, the sample is judged unqualified. If unqualified products appear, double sampling re-inspection is required. Failure of re-inspection means the entire batch is unqualified.
