What is Two-Color Mould and What Are Its Advantages

2026-03-10 11:39:05 Injection Mold
Two-color mould, also known as two-shot mould or double material mould, is a precision injection mould that uses a special two-color injection machine to inject two different colors or types of plastic materials into one set of mould in two steps, and finally ejects the finished product in one operation. The two materials are fused together inside the mould to form an integrated product without secondary assembly, which is totally different from traditional single-colour moulding and secondary processing.
Core Definition of Two-Color Mould

Two-color mould relies on a dedicated two-color injection molding machine and a specially designed mould structure, usually with a 180° rotating core. It completes two injections in one mould, combining two materials at the molecular level in the mould cavity, and achieves one-time demoulding without post-processing such as bonding, assembly or printing.

High-End Appearance with No Defects
Products made by two-color mould feature clear and neat color boundaries, no splicing gaps, color difference or fading. Unlike post-spraying or screen printing, the color and texture are integrated with the product, with high durability and no wear or peeling during long-term use, greatly improving product grade and texture, which is ideal for high-end consumer electronics, automotive interiors and daily necessities.
Functional Composite Performance

This mould can combine hard and soft plastics freely: hard plastic provides stable structural support, while soft plastic achieves anti-slip, shock absorption, sealing and comfortable hand feel. It can also match transparent and opaque materials to realize light transmission and shading functions, meeting diversified performance requirements of products. The bonding strength between two materials is high, no delamination or falling off occurs, and product durability is significantly improved.

Efficient Production & Cost Reduction
Although the upfront mould cost is higher than ordinary single-colour moulds, it integrates multiple processes into one-step forming, eliminating manual assembly, post-processing and other procedures, shortening production cycle by 30%-40% and reducing labor costs by more than 50%. It also ensures high dimensional accuracy and consistency, with a low defective rate, showing outstanding cost advantages in mass production.
Wide Application Scenarios
Two-color mould is widely used in consumer electronics (earphone shells, watch straps), automotive parts (steering wheels, control buttons), medical devices and daily necessities (electric toothbrush handles, cosmetic caps), becoming a key technology to enhance product competitiveness in the manufacturing industry.
