AS (Acrylonitrile-Styrene copolymer) is a transparent general-purpose thermoplastic formed by random copolymerization of acrylonitrile and styrene. It combines styrene's transparency and rigidity with acrylonitrile's chemical and oil resistance. With a relatively low density among general-purpose plastics and excellent processability, it is commonly used in daily necessities, electronic accessories, and packaging. AS density is primarily affected by acrylonitrile content, polymerization process, and minor modifiers. Virgin material density is stable, with a slight increase after filling modification. Accurate density is fundamental for injection molding and lightweight product design.

  • Virgin AS: 1.06–1.08 g/cm³, typical value 1.07 g/cm³. It offers good transparency, high rigidity, oil and chemical resistance, and low density, suitable for basic applications like transparent daily necessities, electronic enclosures, stationery, and packaging containers.

  • Glass Fiber Reinforced AS: 1.20–1.35 g/cm³. Density increases with glass fiber content, primarily improving tensile strength, heat resistance, and dimensional stability while reducing warpage. Ideal for structural parts and home appliance support components.

  • Flame-Retardant AS: 1.07–1.10 g/cm³. Modified with phosphorus or halogen-based flame retardants, density rises slightly, providing flame-retardant properties for electronic appliance enclosures and switch panels.

  • Wear-Resistant Modified AS: 1.07–1.09 g/cm³. Minor wear-resistant fillers or lubricants cause no significant density change, primarily reducing friction coefficient for light-load transmission components like sliding parts and gears.

Density parameters are the core basis for manufacturing daily necessities, processing electronic accessories, and designing home appliance structural parts. Its low density meets lightweight requirements, and a stable density range ensures dimensional accuracy in injection molding. Density calculations directly influence raw material usage, mold cavity design, and product assembly gap matching, while supporting its core properties of transparency, rigidity, and chemical resistance.
